Booz Allen Hamilton Purchases Healthcare Unit of Genova Technologies

Baltimore, Maryland-based Unit Provides IT Solutions for Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services

MCLEAN, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Booz Allen Hamilton today announced that it has purchased the Baltimore, Md.-based healthcare unit of Genova Technologies, a move that represents the firm's commitment to further support the transformational efforts of the U.S. government's Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The acquisition of the unit and its assets, which includes a facility in Baltimore and a staff of about 40 people who currently provide IT solutions and strategy for CMS, will expand and supplement Booz Allen's strong legacy of support for the Department of Health and Human Services and its broader Health business. The Cedar Rapids, Iowa-based Genova Technologies will retain its defense and commercial businesses.

"Booz Allen has a long tradition in helping the federal government implement legislation and effectuate change. We're proud to support the government in the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, and this acquisition provides an opportunity to strengthen and expand our support," said Senior Vice President Kristine Martin Anderson.

The Genova health team has a deep understanding of CMS information systems and business practices and a proven ability to translate between business and technology. The combination of Genova and Booz Allen's health team enhances the firm's collective ability to support CMS and other health clients through health reform.

Executive Vice President Susan Penfield, who oversees the firm's health business, noted the acquisition creates a particularly strong cultural match. "Along with bringing superior health-related technical expertise, the Genova health team has a culture of innovation and a level of client commitment that are an excellent fit with the values for which our firm is known," Penfield said.

Booz Allen Hamilton maintains a strong history and commitment of working across all government and commercial healthcare segments, helping clients respond to complex challenges. The addition of the Genova technology capability aligns with the firm's broader strategy of expanding its engineering and technology expertise to respond to the changing demands of government and commercial clients seeking more cost-effective and innovative solutions.

Booz Allen this year was awarded a contract under the CMS Research, Measurement, Assessment, Design and Analysis (RMADA) program, for which Booz Allen is providing design, implementation and evaluation of a broad range of research and/or payment and service delivery models aimed at reducing heath costs while maintaining or improving quality of care.
