Allen Middleton, Former Deputy Director of Defense Health Agency, Joins Booz Allen
McLean, Va., -- Booz Allen (NYSE: BAH) has named Allen Middleton, former Deputy Director of the Defense Health Agency (DHA), as an advisor and thought leader for the firm's healthcare clients who are transforming healthcare systems in defense, civil and commercial markets. Middleton was named as an independent consultant July 1, and is a recognized expert in health care policy, operations, and the design of health care systems.

Mr. Middleton recently retired from the Senior Executive Service where he served as the Deputy Director of DHA. In this role, he provided day-to-day management of the agency, including oversight of its $20 billion budget supporting of nearly 10 million beneficiaries. Prior to joining DHA, Mr. Middleton served for five years as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Budgets and Financial Policy and the Acting Chief Financial Officer of the TRICARE Management Activity. In this position, he supervised the financial management of the private sector care program as well as the program, budget and execution function, management controls and financial studies, facility portfolio management, TRICARE Management Activity financial operations, private sector care financial management and program, business and economic analysis. He also served as the Acting Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs for 20 months and as the Principal Deputy Director, TRICARE Management Activity.
He entered federal service in 1972 with a commission in the Air Force Medical Service Corps. Mr. Middleton served on active duty until 2001, when he retired after serving in numerous senior-level positions in the Air Force Medical Service. Mr. Middleton returned to federal service in 2004 with the TRICARE Management Activity financial management office. He was selected for the position as Chief Financial Officer of the Air Force Medical Service in 2005 and was later selected as Director of Financial Plans and Policy in Health Affairs.
Mr. Middleton holds a Masters of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts (cum laude) from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst Massachusetts. His career in the United States Air Force included administrative positions in Air Force medical treatment facilities and he commanded the base hospital at Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota. In 1997, he was selected to be the U.S. Air Force Assistant Surgeon General for Programs and Policy and in 1999 was selected as the 15th Chief of the Air Force Medical Service Corps.
