Newtown Square, PA — Project Management Institute (PMI), the world’s leading professional membership organization for project managers, announced the re-election by the membership of Eugene (Gene) Bounds, PMP, to its Board of Directors.  And he has been further elected by his Board peers to serve as the Chair for 2010.  The volunteer leadership Board, which governs PMI as it carries out the purposes and objectives of the organization and its strategic plan, is comprised of 15 elected directors-at-large, each serving three-year terms. Bounds served as vice chair of the Board of Directors in 2009.

“PMI is fortunate to have a board of experienced and knowledgeable individuals who are willing to volunteer their time to advance the project management profession,” said Gregory Balestrero, president and CEO of PMI. “Gene’s extensive experience and steadfast leadership on project management embodies PMI’s philosophy of excellence in project management, and we look forward to his continued leadership over the next three years.”

Bounds touts 30 years of experience in project management and has been a PMI member since 1989.  He is currently affiliated with PMI’s Washington, D.C. chapter, and previously held membership with both the Mile-Hi and Pittsburgh Chapters. Bounds was an active participant in the initial Organizational Project Management Maturity Model (OPM3®), and in 1995, he received an award for co-founding the PMI Information Systems Specific Interest Group (SIG). He was first elected to PMI’s Board of Directors in 2007, and has served as secretary-treasurer, chair of the Performance Oversight Committee and chair of the Strategic Planning and Program Alignment Committee.

Bounds holds a bachelor’s degree in information systems from Texas Tech University and a master’s degree in information systems from the University of Southern California.  He is currently a senior vice president at Booz Allen Hamilton, where he serves as an economic business analysis functional leader. A retired United States Air Force officer, Bounds also has over two decades of information technology and control systems program implementation experience.

This international volunteer leadership group is responsible for setting strategy, establishing policies and providing oversight to meet the needs of PMI members.  Others elected to the Board of Directors for the next three years include Shirley Edwards, PMP; Frank Parth, MSSM, MBA, PMP; Vijay Prasad, PMP; and Ricardo Triana, PMP.  The newly-elected Board and its Board-elected officers will take office on 1 January 2010.
